Idea Napkin No. 2

1) I am a senior at the University of Florida studying Psychology, on the pre-medical track. My talents are writing, playing several musical instruments, learning new languages, and videography. I have traveled extensively and have learned the stories of many people around the world. My aspiration is to become the director of an international aid organization that provides medical care and education to inner-city youth around the world. I see this business as playing a role in this dream by its purpose of educating people of issues around the world (including what inner-city youth face internationally) and also raising money for this aid organization (i.e. 20% of all profit made would go to the aid organization, similar to the business concept of Mission BBQ).
2) I am offering to customers a restaurant experience that ties an extensive global menu that includes cuisines not found anywhere else in their city together with a unique approach to education through multi-cultural entertainment, international speakers, and similar events.
3) What all my customers have in common is previous travel (or a desire to travel) as well as an intent to experience the world more and increase knowledge.
4) Customers will pay for this service and its accompanying goods because of their personal desires to experience new things and learn, the current need for understanding and knowledge in our globalizing world, and the provision of a unique dining concept that is not found elsewhere.
5) My core competencies that set me apart from everyone else is my wide set of experiences that gives me a uniquely strong sense of empathy with many people, my ability to motivate others from behind-the-scenes, and my ability to be highly innovative.
I believe that all of these elements fit together well. This business idea is the product of my personal dreams, experiences, and qualities. It also is a similar extension of my customers' dreams, experiences, and qualities. The match between the two is what makes these elements fit well, providing needed services and goods to others that match with what I am passionate about.
Two main points that I took away from the feedback I received is to make the restaurant seem more accessible to a diverse set of people and to narrow the focus so that the customer is not overwhelmed. I incorporated this feedback into the new idea napkin by dividing the restaurant up according to the potential personal interests of customers and expanding this list of personal interests to fit a more diverse customer base.

  2. Hello Thuy-Linh,
It was great to read about the goals and aspirations that you have incorporated into this assignment, educating the population as well as sending money to aid organizations are great causes for your idea. The adjustments you made to the feedbacks are very clever. It provides the customers options as to how they want to spend their dining experience, and options are always good.

  3. Hey Thuy-Linh,

Overall, I really like this idea napkin, and I agree that with the diverse amount of things you are offering could make any potential customers overwhelmed. So, the idea of splitting the restaurant into sections to narrow the focus was a good idea. One question, to supply a "global experience" amount of food may require a large kitchen staff with top chefs in their respective country for each country's food you offer, so do you think operational costs may be high and if so how would you compensate for these high costs? Keep up the good work!

  4. Definitely love expanding peoples exposure to cultures not evident in the United States. It is so beneficial to have those experiences but many people are not interested. I would just advise to truly craft an experience that is different than what already exists. if done right this could be quite the experience.
